A mixed bag of links today. As always, I’ve tried to source my squibs but some of the open browser windows are the result of tweets, and in some cases I’ve lost track of the source.
- 20 Amazing Illustrator Tutorials. It’s been a long while since I’ve done any serious work in Illustrator. Some of these might get me back into it, at least to play.
- RGMP 14: Publish your video on your blog. The 14th chapter in Mindy McAdams’s must-read guide to multimedia journalism has all the info you need to get your video onto your blog.
- The poor connection between internet advertising and newspaper woes. Robert Picard says the ‘net isn’t to blame for newspaper classified woes. Jeff Sonderman disagrees.
- The New (Lower) Cost of News. With the cost of doing journalism — and how to pay for it ‐ much on the minds of many, Wayne MacPhail looks at what news now costs and what it could cost.
- How I got 39,000 views on a month-old documentary trailer in just a week. Simon Owens ran an experiment to see if he could seed the web to push video views. He did. And, he appears to have carefully seeded the ‘net again to get word out on his experiment. Smart guy.
- How early online newspaper production tools led the industry down the wrong path. Interesting thesis — that the early limitations of the tools led people to think the ‘net was hard and that made newspaper innovation difficult — from Robert Niles. Sounds very plausible.
