A few things from a full-to-the-brim newsreader:
- Senator Kennedy’s tumor and what the newspapers can do tomorrow… To step all over Juan Antonio Giner’s punchline “… you will read tomorrow’s newspapers and they will present an old story in the front page like they were breaking the news. This is, my dear, THE problem.”
- Yanks trump Canucks on bloggish hockey coverage. Yikes, beat at our own game.
- Not for the squeamish. A photog gets a javelin through the lower leg and not only comes back to finish shooting the meet, but brings back a pic of himself being treated by medical personnel.
- The Future of News. I pointed to some coverage of this Princeton workshop last week. Now UChannel has videos of the sessions online. It’s not readily evident, but clicking on the UC logo gets you a QuickTime MP4, if you don’t want to go the Real Audio or WMP route.
- Transom reviews the Olympus LS-10. Brad Linder points to a review of Olympus’s first “pro” recorder and hits the highlights. The bottom line appears to be that it’s a solid contender given its feature set, capabilities and, especially, price.
- Framegrab vs. still: a real world comparison. A side-by-side comparison of shots from a Canon 1D Mark II and a Canon XH A1, in which the vidcam holds its own.
- Newspaper shares -35%, CEO pay -11%. And, reports Alan Mutter, some of those shepherding their companies through falling share prices actually got raises. My own observation: there’s a lot of million-dollar-plus salaries in there.
- How not to post restaurant reviews online. Alfred Hermida is surprised that an online Globe & Mail restaurant review features no web goodies, including the by-now basic ability to add comments.
- Curley’s team leaving WaPo for LV Sun. I’ve seen two posts, one saying Rob Curley was leaving the Washington Post for Las Vegas, and this one, which says his whole team is on the move, but it’s not clear if he is. Not sure what it all means.
- Spellr.us Launches: Check Your Site For Spelling Erors. Just what I need: someone else looking over my shoulder to point out the errors of my ways. And, yes, the typo in the headline is real.
- Digidave interviews Ryan Sholin. Two of my favourite young journalists in a short video conversation. Related: ICM interview: David Cohn, spot.us, a lengthy interview with Digidave about his recent Knight Challenge Grant and what it will fund.
- Newspaper Roundup: NYT; Boston Globe; Gannett; Seattle Times; McClatchy; WPN. Paid Content’s latest round up of biz news, none of it particularly sparkling.
