From the ‘net:
- Credibility gap. Deborah Jones, at the Canadian Journalism Project, dissects coverage of a particularly nasty murder case here in Canada and the media doesn’t come off looking that good.
- AngryJournalist.com T-shirt Store. Need I say more? Via Rex Sorgatz.
- Goin’ back to Dallas. Mark Hancock, one of my favourite photo bloggers, goes freelance. Best of luck to him.
- Mexican Journalist Wins World Press Freedom Prize. We need things like this to remind us that journalism really does matter, particularly when it’s practised in countries where journalists are regularly threatened and even murdered.
- The 2007 Michener Award Finalists. Nominees are announced for one of Canada’s most prestigious journalism awards. Related: Pictures of the year, results from the major Canadian competition. Sorry, I couldn’t find a link to the images.
- Contest winners vs. what audience wants. Speaking of contests, Angela Grant looks at video that wins awards and then compares the attributes to those of videos that draw her attention.
- Newspaper circ at 62-year low. Alan Mutter has the total numbers, and the fact that the U.S. population has doubled in that time, making the impact all the worse.
- Small town loses paper, residents fill gap online. Interesting. Who says citizens can’t fill the gap?
- Seven psychological complaints of bloggers and social media addicts. It’s funny ’cause it’s truthy.
- Journalism in six words. Some serious, some funny.
- Leftover Matzah? Finally, because there is enough bad news out there, a little music video fun. I really enjoyed this, and I’m not Jewish.
