From the web today, so far:

  • Out of Print: The death and life of the American newspaper. Eric Alterman in the New Yorker treads familiar ground in his look at how newspapers are doing ad how sites such as The Huffington Report figure in the new mix. Via Jim Romenesko.
  • Managing change in the newsroom – and in the marketing department. Kristine Lowe passes along some observations on fomenting and managing newsroom change, including this: ” For rank and file, how you institute change is ultimately all about ‘justice.’”
  • Essentials of a multimedia journalism package. Another of Mindy McAdams’s excellent posts that teach us all something about what these new forms of storytelling need to work for the reader. Read and learn.
  • MetaCarta: Geo-search news. Cool mashup of headlines and Google maps to link news and geography, navigable either from the list of headlines or the world map. According to CNet, advertising may be added to the mix in the future. I’ve bookmarked the site: we’ll see whether I remember to use it when following breaking news or trends.
  • The Mexican Suitcase. A Flash-based look at the discovery of a suitcase filled with negatives from Robert Capa, Gerda Taro, David Seymour and others. A nice combination of text, photos and interactive contact sheets (although the music is annoying: thankfully, it can be turned off), this should enthrall photographers and lovers of photojournalism.
