Snow day in Vancouver, so lots of time to surf, ponder and link.

  • Guardian video suppliment: more content. Andy Dickinson, who brought us news of the print edition Making Video supplement in the weekend Guardian, points out the same content is online, and worth reading.
  • Accidental journalism. A very short post from David Weinberger, helping to expand/refine the definitions that go with citizen journalism. The challenge for existing media is to capture this stuff.
  • How activists aim to help NYT. Some boardroom manouevring with the claimed aim of ensuring “the health of an asset that will face erosion if the business continues to erode” and recapture some of the company’s value. Three of the four nominated “activist directors” have deep internet backgrounds.
  • Losing Local. Still with the business side of things, Mark Potts has a post examining some stats that suggest that newspapers are losing the battle for local online advertising. He draws some lessons from that.
  • News Wire to Launch News Service. The News Wire, a Netherlands-based international news service, grows out of a Twitter feed. Target date for launch, apparently, is March.
