From the reader today:
- The quality debate: Journalism Vs Journalists. Andy Dickinson continues the discussion about video and “quality journalism” — a discussion that’s been held here, at Howard Owens’s place and other sites on the web. (And no, I’m not pointing to this only because I’m mentioned in the lede. This is a fascinating discussion, and I can’t wait to see where it leads next.)
- As I Hear It – Choosing the Right Microphone. For the tools folder, a very deep and detailed look at shotgun mics for video. More than a post, it’s a whole education in gathering sound.
- Trends to keep track of in 2008. An interesting list from the Newspaper Association of America, which inlcudes outsourcing, hyperlocal coverage and consolidation.
- “This year will be a comeback of sorts for print,” says editor. Nice to hear, but they’re talking mostly about magazines. (Follow the links from Jim Romenesko.)
- The New York Times is Full of Crap! (mostly….) Tish Grier deconstructs a Sunday with NYT, making a variety of great points along the way. Well worth the read, whether you’re a news producer or consumer.
- The Exploding Newsroom. I’m used to learning about new blogs through other bloggers, but times are changing. This one is both a blog and a Facebook group.
