Some quick hits on a day when it feels like I’m paddling like a madman and only staying in place.

  • 10 Key Takeaways. Ten key ideas on newspapering and the future from a recent Knight Digital Media Center-sponsored seminar. Nothing startling, but it’s nice to see all the ideas gathered in one place.
  • A model for the 21st century newsroom pt2: Distributed Journalism. Paul Bradshaw with the second part of his essential series of articles on rebuilding the newsroom. This time, he starts with the idea that journalists have to “move above the content.” Intriguing.
  • Teaching Data on the Web. Derek Willis agrees with the idea of teaching newspaper folk to work harder with data, but wonders how it will be done.
  • Brain drain. Alan Mutter points to what may become a significant problem for newspapers: losing young, tech-oriented journalists who are frustrated at the lack of opportunities and attracted to more exciting work elsewhere.
  • New journalism blog aggregator. Angela Grant talks to the folks behind a new aggregator that pulls together popular posts on journalism about how their SocialRank-driven site works. A look at the site shows it’s picking up some stuff, but missing much of what I find interesting about the media blogophere.

They might not be checking the blogs that you like. You have to send a message with the URLs of blogs that you want them to add to their list.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for mentioning our new SocialRank driven site. You mentioned that you feel like we are missing much of what you find interesting about the media blogosphere. Can you please elaborate.

Also, did you know that we have:
    http://www.prvoices.com AND http://www.newmediasignal.com AND JournalismDaily.com?

We have many niche sites for all of the different areas of interest to help surface the top stories within each community of bloggers. Would love to hear more detailed feedback.
