Coming at you, a little (well, a lot) later than usual:
- Cleaning up non-standard language vs. careless misquotation. Language Log takes a look at how journalists — in particular sports journalists — do and mis-do quotes.
- Whistling past the graveyard. Paul Gillin wonders why Editor & Publisher is concentrating on small stuff.
- AEJMC Reaffirms Commitment to Media Openness. The Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication has voted for openness, after a NY Times reporter stopped a C-SPAN broadcast of one of its panel discussions. At the same site, there are several other interesting reports from the just-concluded convention.
- Key points in a disruptive newspaper video strategy. Howard Owens has posted the bullet points from his presentation on newspapers doing video. It’s a nice to-do list.
- Web Exclusive: Breaking the Buck Thirty Time Limit. Still with video, TV journalist Kyle Majors provides an interesting post that contrasts and compares the piece he did on DARPA to the fit the TV format, and a longer-form web piece.
- New-to-me RSS additions. The RSS list keeps growing. The newest additions are the PDNPulse, from Photo District News, and photobetty, which has some wonderful photo stories. My sources for were Dennis Dunleavy and A Photo a Day. Update: Only PDNPulse gets added; photobetty has no RSS feed.
