From the web this weekend:

  • Reviving Anorexic Web Writing. This isn’t specifically about journalism, but Amber Simmons’s piece on web writing made me cheer: forget the chunks, the bullets, the short form and start producing writing that makes people want to read.
  • Some answers for Bill Densmore and Chris Peck. Steve Yelvington answers three questions about journalism. The questions are interesting, Steve’s answers provoke thought.
  • Media bloggers must-reads. Shane Richmond’s original request for journalism must-reads has crossed the pond: Howard Owens weighs in.
  • A citizen journalist from Moldova. Even the most hard-hearted of citizen journalism opponents will see its value in JD Lasica’s interview with Tatiana Tibuleac, which includes thoughts on citizens doing journalism in countries where the media can’t.
  • Production, Post and Online Distribution for Hometown Baghdad. A Q & A with the online distribution manager for the amazing Hometown Baghdad online video series. Well worth the time it will take to read.
  • Students produce the future of newsgathering. This multimedia work, from the News21 initiative, really is outstanding storytelling by any measure. I have to say, though, that Cory Doctorow’s claim — “These student presentations are better than anything I’ve seen from ‘real’ news agencies and could serve as a model for the future of interactive/online journalism.” — shows he hasn’t been paying much attention to what newspapers have been doing with multimedia journalism for about a decade.
