- Cubreporters. File this under tools: a guide to beginning reporters to getting experience and a job.
- Interviews: phone, email — which is best? A kerfuffle over interviewing breaks out on the net and a number of people have weighed on what works and doesn’t. Front link is to Mathew Ingram. Other comments worthy of note: Martin Stabe and Dan Gillmor.
- Copy Editors: The Missing Link in the Online Newsroom. Copy editors struggle with their role in the new web-based media world. Among the questions is why aren’t the same standards applied to the net as they are to the newspaper?
- Earnings: Scripps Revenue Grows 2 Percent, Networks Segment Grows 13.4 Percent. A publishing company’s quarterly report that has the rare verb “grow” in it. Also: Earnings: Meridith Profit Up 11.5 Percent, Online Ads Up 50 Percent.
- Invest in video; podcasts, not so much. Howard Owens backs the eye in response to suggestions that newspapers aren’t doing enough for the ear. Some of his readers defend podcasts in the age of the long commute. Like a good Canadian, I can see both sides of the argument.
