Andy Dickinson continues his valuable set of “training posts” with Newspaper Video: Practical audio. It’s a good piece that deals not just with capturing the audio, but editing as well.
Audio is one of the challenges of doing video on the cheap. Low-cost miniDV cameras rarely allow for a remote mic (and point-and-shoot cameras, not at all), which means audio is usually less than perfect. Most often, with the little videos I’ve been doing, I’ve had to export audio from the video-editing program and run it through a sound-editing app to clean up what I can. I’ve also learned to work as close as I can to the source of the sound when recording.
Andy’s advice is, as always, sound, if you’ll pardon the pun. I’ve added it to my bookmarks of video self-help articles.
