Wrapping up the weekend by catching up on my browsing.
- Web reshaping newspapers, analyst says. Analyst Lauren Rich Fine sees a healthy future for newspapers, but “there’s no way to go back to where the industry has come from.” Via I Want Media.
- Burning down Atlanta. Hart Vanden Berg is among those commenting on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s plans to restructure itself and, in Hart’s words, taking dead aim at TV. Juan Antonio Giner reprints the Atlanta memo explaining it all.
- And now, an apology in the form of an open letter to America. Am outspoken and long-time TV newser takes on the media’s obsession with inane and trivial. And apologizes.
- Bummer graphic on newspapers in decline. Dennis Dunleavy has republished a graph that shows the stark reality of modern newspapering: a steepish decline in U.S. circulation since 1990 and a halving of the percentage of newspaper readers ages 18-34.
- CanWest News Service expands. Deborah Jones isn’t sure what to make of CanWest plans for new news bureaus and a 25-journalist 24/7 newsroom to feed print and online. She asks some interesting questions.
