A trend I&#039;ve noticed (read opinion here) is that old news, which is now what the story is thanks to Sean&#039;s day job with 24 Hours, burns indies. They often believe they need constant, &#039;fresh&#039; news during every cycle. 

Generally, the positive result means more original news is released; the independents push the envelope. The negative result is that some serious stories, like this one at the Times-Colonist, won&#039;t get as much coverage as perhaps they should.

It might be unfair -- for once -- to finger CanWest exclusively. But then again, its outlets still carry the greatest audience numbers.</description>
