Somehow, Tuesday got away from me. Consider this a two-fer.
- Three Media Execs on Why Industry Cannot Innovate. A lot of this makes sense, including the idea that you can’t expect an industry to disrupt itself.
- Newspapers: 180 years for not charging for content. An interesting read that hammers home a point that has been made before, but still seems to be ignored by too many.
- Death spiral! A short and pointed call on newspapers to do something, while they have the chance of doing anything.
- 3 reasons journalists shouldn’t use Flash. Wise words from Mark Luckie, in a post that includes examples of how journalists should use Flash.
- Changing the Law to Save Newspapers: Some Modest Proposals. Read them and weep if you believe, as I do, that screwing with rights to buttress business models is a bad idea.
- An Open Letter to the Publishing Industry. And no one is spared. A fun read, with small grains of oft-repeated truths.
- The future of journalism: Will journalists be paying out of their own pockets? A profound and intelligent post at Online Journalism Blog that asks some important questions. Go read.
- Set Pieces. One of two photo links today. This links to a Vanity Fair slideshow of great movie-set photos taken by Mary Ellen Mark, one of my favourite photographers. The other photo-related piece is a post by Bojan Furst that includes excerpts from, and links to, some interesting recent articles on photography. Well worth spending your time with.
