Some things that deserve to be more widely read and debated:
- 4 things I would tell a freshman journalism student. I don’t entirely agree with some of Sean Blanda’s premises, but his ideas are worth thinking and talking about.
- Thirty things you might miss in a world without newspapers. Another list, this one just plain fun. American readers may have to Google “Guy Fawkes” to appreciate the first item.
- Ten things every journalist should know in 2009. Another list (hmm, we seem to have a theme developing here), this one from a few weeks back. Solid.
- Why Journalists Still Matter: Obligation. A reminder from Tim Porter, with a very real example, that journalists are the ones that run toward the danger.
- Does following the news work? Matt Thompson blows up one of the cherished myths of journalism — or does he? A fascinating post and a really good discussion in the comments. I’d consider this a must-read.
This barely touches the number of open browser windows I have in Safari and NetNewsWire. I may add more to this over the course of the evening, depending on how my energy holds out.
