News this morning, via a tweeted link to an Edmonton Journal article, about more Canadian newspaper layoffs. The lede:
Metroland Media Group Ltd., which owns 100 community newspapers across Ontario, on Friday became the latest media company to announce layoffs. The company laid off 17 people, citing market forces, according to a source.
What I find curious is that nowhere in the short article does it mention that Metroland is a division of Torstar, one of the Canadian publishing biggies, which itself shed 160 jobs earlier this year.
I don’t think there’s anything ominous about the missing information, but it seems to me to be a rather large oversight in the reporting.
