There is enough bad news in the world. Here are a few good things.
- Blografias com luz. A wonderful photo blog that lives up to the title. (Not sure what blografias is — I suspect it might be a Portuguese play-on-words with biographies — but “com luz” is with light.) Some stunning photography from Francisco Máximo. Discovered via a tweet from Mario Pires.
- Be cheery, journalists. Really. I keep telling my student this, Maybe they’ll believe Kirk LaPointe and Richard Addis.
- Olympics charged broadcast students fee. The good news here is that the provincial government pointed out to the Olympic Broadcasting Services that charging the fee was illegal. (It wasn’t just broadcast students: some of my students were involved as well.) It really is difficult to understand how an event where $40 million is being spent on opening and closing ceremonies alone needs to charge journalism students training fees or, in some cases, have them working for nothing.
- Street scenes. This is a nice series of photo-and-audio reports from the various neighbourhoods of Los Angeles. It’s a great idea and very stealable. Via Gerik Pamele
- A contest? View’d, the rather new online photojournalism site, is running a documentary photography contest for students. It’s been running for a while, but I just noticed it.

Love the street scenes link. SO much potential there.
