VANOC quietly applied to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for trademark rights to the phrase “with glowing hearts,” part of the well-known refrain in O Canada: “With glowing hearts we see thee rise, the true North strong and free.”
VANOC is the Vancouver Olympic Committee, which is running the 2010 Winter Olympics here. Michael Geist rightly calls it “intellectual property run amuck.”
Idiots.
