Some of the browser windows I have open feature some nice resources for learning things journalistic.
- o que está nas notícias? | what’s on the news? Alexandre Gamela has come up with an interesting way of comparing the personality of newspapers, using tag clouds generated by Wordle.
- MSCNE Links. Bryan Murley has a handy compendium of links to a small sample of the online tools available for new ways of storytelling, including embedded video, timelines and even Flash-based content.
- Audio and video tips. Links to a couple of list of tips for that new-age stuff.
- Helping the Almost-Journalists Do Journalism. Dan Gillmor talks about some of the new journalism coming from unfamiliar sources and how journalists can help them by helping to add the principles of journalism to their work. (Okay, I realize that sounds awkward and wishy-washy. Go read the original.)
- Getting the best audio in the field. Andy Dickinson tracks down so nice tutorials on getting the sound down.
- Style & Substance. This remains my favourite monthly language fix: the Wall Street Journal’s copy-editing newsletter. Some of it is insider-only, but the Quintessential Quiz is a nice workout for the English writing muscles.
