It’s either this or drown my Euro 08 sorrows after today’s game.
- Celebrating a bumpy, thrilling 50 years. I’m convinced that one of the areas newspapers can claim pretty much as their own is short-form video docs, such as this entertaining bit from John Lehmann at the Globe & Mail, and those pioneered by the Washington Post. Then again, I’ve been wrong many times before.
- A quick roundup of papers looking to hire. Kicking back against all the doom and gloom, Charles Apple has a lengthy post of open journalism jobs. Related: Jobs. At newspaper. Jobs at newspapers. Newspaper jobs. from William Hartnett.
- Directory of newspaper gossip and insider blogs. Danny Sanchez also has a lengthy list, this one of places to find the inside dope on (primarily American) newspapers. Way too many to follow regularly.
- Brian Storm Envisions the Future of Online Journalism. Media Storm is among the best and most inventive multimedia storytelling sites on the web, so it pays to listen when its founder muses on Where This is All Going. (This is a 26-minute video interview.)
- Logan, Just Back From Iraq, To The Daily Show. Not sure if you’ve all seen this or not yet, but Jon Stewart’s interview with the blunt-speaking Lara Logan is worth it.
- Huffington Post starts local news push. There’s been lots of talk about the importance of a newspaper’s “brand.” Here’s a reminder that there are other brands out there, too, and they’re all fighting for pieces of the same pie. And while the pie may be growing, it may not be growing at the same rate as the number of folks claiming pieces.

Hey Mark, thanks for the link. Shoot me a note if you know of any good company or publication-specific watchdog blogs (Canadian or otherwise), and I’d be happy to include them.
Cheers,
Danny
