I’m far behind in my blogging (if there’s any such thing) for a number of reasons. Herewith, a start to getting caught up.
- Supercharge Your Camera with Open-Source CHDK Firmware. A firmware hack that allows some Canon point-and-shoots to capture RAW images, shoot at up to 1/60,000 of a second and more? What will they think of next, and how soon can I get a camera that will let me try this?
- Contest season leaves an impression. Colin Mulvany, fresh from a round of video contest judging, spots the errors and passes along some wise words of advice for all us new videographers.
- Desperate times need desperate models. Jeff Jarvis lists some possible ideas for new models for struggling newspapers.
- Tribune Could Default In ‘09: Analyst. Speaking of struggling newspapers.
- Quick tips to improve your photos. Mark Hancock’s list of tips for making better photographs almost reads like poetry.
- 80 Useful New Media Tutorials. Eighty?! Good Lord, who has the time? Other than that, this is a great list.
- New study finds that newspaper blogs fail to increase public dialogue. That seems bound to happen if newspapers approach blogging as a whenever-you-have-time add-on or an extension of the opinion column. Personally, I think newspapers would be better off using blogging as a storyform.
- Confessions of a Journalism Student. Journalism education is much on my mind (as it usually is) and I found this post by Sean Blanda one of the better recent pieces of writing on the subject, perhaps because it’s one of he few that’s actually come from a student. Some great stuff in the post and in the comments.
- You Suck at Photoshop #10. The series keeps getting weirder. And funnier.
- The Price of Objectivity. I like this quote from Brian Storm, passed along by Dorian Benkoil: “If you’re a journalist and you don’t have an agenda, you don’t have a pulse.”
