I’ve spent some time today at a couple of sites that are lamenting/celebrating the deaths and lives of a couple of newspapers.

Halifax j-prof and newspaper columnist Stephen Kimber has a nice piece on recently-slain Halifax Daily News. There are some heroes and many quasi-villians in the piece.

More impressive is the going out of the Alburquerque Tribune: two videos and a slideshow produced as part of the dying days of the afternoon newspaper. The videos comes from the newsroom in the final days and from two 59-year subscribers to the Times. The slideshow is from past and present photojournalists at the New Mexico daily and includes images and stories from what sounds like one hell of a photo shop.

Links to all three can by found in Richard Koci Hernandez’s post A Sad End to a Great Paper.

Watching the pieces from Alburquerque, I couldn’t help wonder how many other newsroom staffers feel as attached to their publication as these folks did.
