A bunch ‘o interesting links.
- Gisondi: Sports editors looking for multimedia skills. Bryan Murley picks up on a recent Joe Gisondi post and elaborates on the need for young journos of all sorts to bring multimedia skills to the table.
- New York Times to eliminate 100 newsroom jobs this year. That’s out of 1,300-plus. But still.
- After the speech. I showed this to my class today as a great example of mixing video, audio, portraits and event photography to tell a story. Very nicely done.
- Halifax Daily News – reaction on the street. Interesting bit of video on YouTube with residents of Halifax reacting to the death of a newspaper.
- CNN’s iReport.com Debuts. The network’s all cit-j site goes live and the Bivings Report has details. Meanwhile, at Tech Crunch, CNN iReport: iLame Or iGood?.
- Your competition: The press release. Hmmm. I quite like what Mathew Ingram says here.
- My Language Crimes at The New York Times. Part 2 of Doug McGill’s recent lecture on media ethics. Whether you agree with what he’s saying or not, this is shaping up as a required read.
- BASIC principles of online journalism: B is for Brevity. Speaking of series, the seemingly tireless Paul Bradshaw has launched another five-parter, which will eventually, he writes, become part of a book. Read the comments, too: this is another top-notch piece from one of our leading lights, which I have just made an assigned read for all my students.
- An Interview with Adrian Holovaty. Rex Sorgatz’s interview of Adrian is the best I’ve read since the launch of EveryBlock.
- The future of the newspaper? A video showing the fold-up, hand-sized Readius eInk mobile reader. Too cool.
- 20+ Great Resources For Video Tutorials. Because I don’t have nearly enough learning resources.
- A look at the numbers: yuck! I could point to the individual posts on recent newspaper earnings, but Paul Gillin has done a nice job of bringing all the bad news together.

Thank you Mark!
