A few things of interest on a Sunday evening:

  • Forget shorthand – a camera phone is the new tool of the journalist’s trade. Jeff Jarvis is enthusiastic after doing some reporting with Reuter’s mojo kit. I agree that high-quality cameraphones add some bright new tools to the kit: I’m not as sure that they’re as game-changing as Jeff seems to think they are.
  • TV news: an endangered species? Newspaper are in trouble and, according to Cory Bergman, cookie-cutter local “action news” programs may be next on the list.
  • The Obama video: media at hyper-speed. Very interesting post from Mathew Ingram as he tracks how a viral video goes from ground-breaking to suspicious in a day or two. The news cycle may indeed have collapsed.
  • “Networked thought” — truth or delusion? And, speaking of Mathew, he and has readers are having a great conversation in reaction to Scott Karp’s post on linear vs. networked thinking.
  • Leadership. Vin Crosbie has a challenge: “If you work in the media industries and are serious, ask yourself this questions right now: ‘Where should I be working to have the most beneficial affect on my industry?’ If you aren’t working there now, why aren’t you?”
  • Visualizing social media fatigue. Josh Catone had me with his lede: “Our attention is stretched so thin these days that there are times when I have actually tried to register for what I thought was a new service only to realize later that I already had an account….” It’s not just information overload anymore: no its platform overload. And, related…
  • New intelligent news aggregator is the Anti-Digg. Maybe this, an aggregator that “learns,” will help. Or maybe it will just add to the open browser windows. Or maybe…
  • Alltop.com. …this, an aggregation of “top” blogs updated every 10 minutes and delivered by topic, will help. Or maybe it will just add to the open browser windows.
  • An aside: Agh. I’ve fallen and I can’t keep up
  • Think like Guy Kawasaki or fall behind in the FUTURE of news sites. And speaking of alltop.com, Shawn Smith thinks there’s a lesson for newspapers from alltop’s Guy Kawasaki.
