Blogging, on a snowy afternoon (think Young Rascals):
- Another Stupid Trend Story. Darren Barefoot tears into the NY Times for reporting on the “trend” of New York stores accepting Euros, a story built on a total of two sources. Rightfully, he calls it lazy journalism.
- Headline of the year? I refuse to believe this Fox headline on an AP story was not deliberately perpetrated, likely to sniggers all ’round the rim.
- Facebook groups supporting Afghani reporter gather members worldwide. Now there are Facebook groups to support appeals to have Sayad Parwez Kambaksh’s death sentence overturned.
- McClatchy Q4 Net Income Swings Positive, But Ad Revs Drop 16.6 Percent. Good news, bad news. See also: MNI faces 50% writeoff of KRI deal by Alan Mutter, in which he suggests aggressive cost-cutting may be on the way.
- WordPress.com Now a Video Publishing Tool. Nice upgrade for WordPress.com’s pro customers and more evidence that publishing just gets easier and easier.
- Videojournalism – using the on camera mic. The post takes a scattergun approach to audio for video, but there’s a lot of good advice there.
- Sam Zell and the Recovering Journalist Rorschach Test. Sam Zell accuses a photojournalist of practising journalistic arrogance, draws a round of applause and then wraps it up with an f-u for the photojournalist. Mark Potts says if you’re on Zell’s side, you’re a recovering journalist. It will be interesting to watch the comment thread develop on this one. Also: Zell: Sorry about the F-you tossed at Orlando Sentinel photog. My take: I side with Zell more than the shooter mostly because of her dismissive attitude toward readers.
