From the newsreader so far today:

  • 60,000 sign up to save Pervez’s life. Roy Greenslade with an update on the Independent’s petition campaign on behalf of Afghan student journalist Sayed Pervez Kambaksh.
  • Print journalism is yesterday’s news. If you read only one depressing take on the state of newspapers today, it should be Wayne MacPhail’s. A sample: “Learning to put movies, podcasts and blogs online doesn’t put you ahead of the game – it’s barely table stakes. Besides, this isn’t a game of skill; it’s a game of attitude.” I don’t share quite the same level of despair, but this is one of those posts that really needs to be widely read.
  • Your photo archives can make great multimedia content. A great tip for newspapers from Colin Mulvany: mine your photo archives as a source for multimedia storytelling. With links to examples, such as this nice look back at the hobo life in Spokane.
  • Sun-Times Media Group weighs possible sale. “Generating the highest value for shareholders” seems to mean gittin’ while the gittin’ is still (relatively) good.
