Something new from Belkin that looks interesting. CrunchGear reports:

Hands down, one of the coolest things I’ve seen at CES so far this week is the Belkin Podcast Studio. It’s a handheld unit that you attach your iPod to. Using a pair of swiveling integrated microphones on each side, the device records what they hear in stereo as an uncompressed WAV on to the iPod. You can even control the pitch and volume, as well as the stereo balance. Besides the integrated mics, the Podcast Studio has dual XLR and 1/4-inch microphone jacks at the top, so you can use your own high-end gear.

It’s being pitched as a podcast studio but, depending on the quality of the mics and the specs on the WAV files, this could be a handy device for reporters who need both their tunes and a source of quality audio. It’s slated for a June release and one report I read put the price at $100. It also apparently will come with gain control and a recording meter and records 16-bit, 44.1 mHz audio.

This doesn’t look like much of a competitor for the higher-end (and substantially higher-cost) dedicated field recorders from Samson, Marantz and the like, but as the head says, it looks intriguing.
