From a light day of blogosphere posts:

  • Determine reporters’ pay by CPM? Good grief, whatever happened to the idea of just firing those who don’t hit the inch count?
  • In Burma, Fever of War. A great article and photo essay by Robert Semeniuk on the plague of malaria among the oppressed and displaced people of Burma. This is not the first time Robert, a B.C.-based photojournalist, has turned his compassionate eye on Burma. At his website, you’ll find a number of important photostories, including War Affected Children: Burma.
  • 2008: Embracing the (Real) Web. Terry Heaton has a long and important essay up about what media companes should be doing in the new year, pointing out that while U.S. elections and the Olympics may give media (particularly TV) a revenue bump, nothing is business as usual any longer. You need to read the whole thing.
  • Maui Today TV. I discovered this through the post mentioned above: an online-only TV station funded (and apparently staffed) by a Hawai’ian radio company. It really is TV rethought for the web, much as York News-Times, discovered through Howard Owens, is rethought newspaper for the web. Some very interesting things are happening out there.
