I have trouble enough getting good English out of my students. Major newspaper (Vancouver Sun) headlines like this — Burnaby RCMP looking for witnesses to arson fire — really don’t help.

Well, think of it this way: All arsons are fires, but not all fires are arson. So it’s not as bad as “Burnaby RCMP looking for witnesses to fire arson.” Hey, the original was probably just a bit short, so they had to add a word.
