No, I’m not about to rush out and buy one of these.
But it’s an impressive little package: 10 times zoom, shoots 4 megapixel stills, some manual controls. Oh, and 1080i HDV. All recorded to SD memory cards, with Sanyo promising about an hour and a half of video on SD memory cards. The thing is 3.5 x 2.1 x 4.4 inches (WxDxH).
Of course, the zoom is digital, which makes it barely usable for anything other than small web video.
Oops. Reread the specs: the 10 times digital zoom is on top of a 10 times optical zoom. And an 8MB SD card would hold just over an hour of 1080i MPEG4 video and almost five hours of web-quality video. Street price in the U.S. is a buck under $800.
