This headline may help those trying to extend their reach: The Future of e-mail is MySpace, Facebook.
Increasingly, my former and current students are contacting me not through traditional email but through Facebook mail or wall posts. This, apparently, is where a lot of them live now and this is where they can be reached.
(As I’m writing this, I’ve just received another Facebook email from a student.)
This can’t be good for all of those who are pinning their hopes on winning young converts to the websites of media companies (formerly known as newspapers) by building community and social networks. It appears they already have them and are quite comfortable and happy with them, too.
