Well, the death of A&M's journalism department is the reason my blog exists, so I'm not sure irony is exactly applicable. I wanted to note, though, that the newspapers that responded to my survey are mainly very large newspapers. Most of the editors said that previous daily newspaper experience was essential (i.e. these are not entry-level papers), and in my experience I know that to be true. So the question for our journalism students at A&M is how necessary a journalism degree is to get hired at an entry-level job. I'm hoping that more small to mid-sized papers will respond to my query so that a broader sample will provide a better picture.

Muchas gracias for reading/linking!
