There’s a new beta of Audacity that looks like it will make the free sound editing app better than ever. According to CNETNews.com:

Audacity’s follow-up to its cult-classic audio editor, Audacity 1.3, warrants the attention of amateur and “prosumer” music editors. Audacity 1.3 adds minor (though useful) editing effects, and greases the wheels with some time-saving functionality. Of Audacity’s recently integrated features, the new repair tool, improved equalizer, and souped-up selection bar will have the biggest impact on track masters.

I’ve pretty much moved away from Audacity to Amadeus Pro, not because I wasn’t satified with Audacity’s ease-of-use and tool set but because the “stable” release I was using was anything but: it would crash too often to be truly usable.

Given that I’m not about to download the beta of Audacity 1.3, but I will be watching for the stable release and hoping for the best.
