Slowly, slowly I’m learning this video thing.
The latest chapter in the tale in this three-minute video report on a weekend Bosnian event in an Everett, WA, park. In some ways, this is the easiest video I’ve done so far. At the concert, I concentrated solely on video (and on a separate audio recording) and left the still camera in the bag. I made sure I shot not just the singers and dancers, but also the audience.
After I reviewed all the clips I shot, I sat down and wrote an outline for the piece, and then spent a couple of hours in Final Cut Express putting it together. (Well, actually three hours, but one of those was because somewhere along the line I screwed up with either a ripple or roll edit and had to backtrack and then redo a number of steps.)
This is the first event video I’ve shot where I’ve felt that there was a storytelling process involved, from beginning through to end. There’s still a long way to go, but it feels like progress is being made.
And, yeah, I know that three minutes is on the long side. But I love that final song so much, I could have included all five minutes of it.
If you’re reading this via RSS and don’t see the video player, either visit the site or watch it on blip.tv. And I’m not sure why I’m seeing a huge photo. I’ll have to work on that.
