Olivia Arthur is the winner of the 2007 Inge Morath Foundation award for photojournalism, and her work is well worth spending some time with. The Middle Distance explores the reality for women living in Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia, an area Arthur describes as the border between Europe and Asia.

Arthur’s images are quietly stunning and a great addition to the world of documentary photography.

Details on the award, as well as galleries from runners-up Rena Effendi in Azerbaijan and Newsha Tavakolian in Iran, are at the Inge Morath Foundation website; the best place to view Arthur’s photos is at her own website, which also has several other absorbing projects.
