Some stuff from the web to set you up for the weekend.
- How to improve your voice. Part of Al Tompkin’s Friday column at Poynter: Tips from a vocal coach on sounding better, which should come in handy in these multimedia times.
- Best. Journalism Quotes. Ever. Ten thoughts on journalism from Oscar Wilde, Thomas Jefferson and some copy editor in Texas. Mildly interesting.
- The BBC should do less online video, says interactivity head. Concentrate instead on improving quality and using video to complement, not repeat, the print stuff, Pete Clifton says.
- The Newspaper of the Future. Jack Shafer looks back to look ahead and suggests newspapers can be put out by fewer people if the focus is properly applied.
- Steve Yelvington describes NewspaperNext innovation process. Good report from Kevin Anderson on a presentation to an IFRA Asia conference. Lots to chew on here. Bonus link: Steve on video, talking about networked journalism.
- Damage Report. A hugely long feature article from the Columbia Journalism Review that looks at what’s happened with the laid-off and the survivors in Dallas. I’ve read about half and bookmarked the rest for later.
- World Journalism Educator Confab: A Rookie’s Thoughts. A rookie she may be, but Rebecca MacKinnon’s thoughts on the role of journalism education are great and well worth spending some time with.
