A few personal items gathered together for no particular reason:

Now reading and enjoying…

It’s Not News book coverIt’s Not News, It’s Fark. Drew Curtis, founder of fark.com, gleefully stomps through the garden of lazy journalism, identifying eight broad categories where “the mass media tries to pass off crap as news.”

Flat-out funny and spot on. I recognize all eight categories from my media consumption and from having committed some of this non-news journalism during my career.

I bought the book at noon and, after a couple of long bus rides and a couple of smoke breaks, I’m halfway through. It’s not just a quick read; it’s addictive.

How the world works now…

…or soon will.

My SO couldn’t make it to the movie I saw last night, but after I came home raving about it, she did a little Google work and found the entire online through Google video. She got to see it after all. Too cool.

By the way, the movie was the excellent Greek film To Fos Pou Svini (Fading Light). Thankfully, the version I saw was subtitled, unlike the online version.

Finally Drupaled up

On the sixth or seventh attempt, I was finally able to get Drupal and MAMP up and running on my laptop, thanks to an excellent how-to by Rob Cottingham.

That’s good news and bad: now I have it, I have to learn how it all works and how I can relatively easily transform a Joomla site to a Drupal site. Yikes. Recommendations for books, etc. gratefully accepted in the comments.

  1. One other great resource, this one online: the Drupal Dojo. (Not an actual dojo. Users will not develop ass-kicking martial arts skills.)
