Getting to it late today, but here’s some reading for the (Canadian) long weekend:
- Three million comments for the Guardian. Coming later this month, according to the newspaper. With comments much in the news (here’s an example at Poynter, and another at the Bivings Report), it shows why debate over how to deal with comments is a big deal.
- News International cuts may start next week. On the business side there’s news that Murdoch’s business is looking at four per cent across the board, and then there’s Jim Romenesko’s report that the SF Chronicle tells union it plans to cut 100 newsroom jobs.
- NFL takes wraps off new online video policy. More details on how the entertainers are increasingly taking control over their product.
- Getting paid for user-generated content. YouTube and others are paying some for their video work, but that might not be the best way to go.
- Using MySpace to help get the story. An interesting use of MySpace to gather information in covering a tragedy but I’m not sure they gained much more than they would have by getting out and talking to people. The two need to go together.
