One of the interesting effects of the ‘net is the openness it brings to media. Reuters Foundation’s AlertNet featured these two headlines late last night. The measurement of the earthquake didn’t change between the time of the first report and the time of the second: the news service’s description of it did. The fact that both headlines stayed up (and, for a while, ran one above the other) shows the folks news reporting is a process, not a singular act.
(AlertNet is an excellent, if generally depressing, source of news on what’s happening around the world. The page slug says it all: “Alerting humanitarians to emergencies.” I highly recommend it for your RSS reader or bookmark list.)
