A few recommendations before I run off to start the day:
- Update 1: The Battle For Control Of The Media Marketplace. Scott Karp turns his attention, again, to the world of online advertising and outlines what one commenter describes as a “nightmare” — control of online advertising.
- Update 2: 10 New Citizen Media Ideas Are Funded. Len Witt has details on the latest round of J-Lab funding for citizen media projects in the U.S.
- Update 3: Project Freesheet. An online attempt to bring environmental responsibility to the rapidly exploding freesheet market. Via Roy Greenslade.
- Maps and stories. An excellent post from Simon Waldman in which he muses on how map mash-ups are being used, by media and others. Mindy McAdams has some thoughts on the issue, too.
- Things Web Viewsers Never, Ever Say. A fun and interesting reality check on the differences between the makers and the viewers, from Steve Safran at Lost Remote.
- Lone journalists ‘a threat’ to the BBC. Small, focussed news sites do challenge mass media, according to the editor of the BBC news site.
- Winning Fools! Multimedia Shooter ran a contest for multimedia storytellers and posted the results on April 1 (hence the post title). There’s interesting stuff there.
- LonelyPlanet.tv merges user video with travel. One more site going after user-submitted content. Like most others, they’re not paying, but there is a chance to win a fairly hefty prize.
