Interesting stuff, as always, all over the web:
- New digital photography guides from Adobe. An incredibly rich collection of PDFs on aspects of digital photography aimed at high-end users and those who want to be. Via Rob Galbraith.
- Newspapers: Collapse and Rebirth. Another death-of-print article, this one predicting a third of metro dailies will be gone within 10 years. Via I Want Media.
- Video and newspaper journalists: Some tips. Andy Dickinson reflects on some recent training in video for print journalists. Some good stuff but I have a quibble: should we really be training print journalists merely to replicate what the TV folk are doing or should we be exploring ways of using “best practices” from both to create something different? Via Mindy McAdams. UPDATE: As Andy points out in the comments, he believes in finding the new ways, too.
- Job do not journalists make. Tom Abate has some wise words about the the idea that the strength of democracy rests with professional journalism.
- Sales fall further, and faster, down the cliff face. Roy Greenslade takes a look at recent UK circulation and readership numbers that show the same thing: the year after the worst year for print since WWII, it’s getting worse.

I agree. My focus is always on learning what works across the mediums. The surprise came in how far apart they are (and that’s no criticism of either print or TV)and how much work needs to be done to bring them together so we can explore those new forms.
