It’s tough to take seriously the massive collection of “facts and figures” about books at this site, when the presentation includes such clangers as this:
One-third of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives. Many do not even graduate from high school.
It becomes tougher still when the “fact” that one-third of high school graduates never read another book is immediately followed by this:
58% of the US adult population never reads another book after high school.
Sheesh. It’s not even grammatically correct.
I found the site through Darren Barefoot, who, helpfully, also points to an NEA study that tells a slightly different story about American book-reading habits.
