Here’s one more reason why I wish I spoke more than one-and-a-bit languages: the Best of the Blogs awards handed out by the German publishing giant Deutsche Welle.

The English-language winner was the indispensable Global Voices site; all of the rest are in languages that include Spanish, Portuguese, French, Farsi and Arabic. The citations for the winning blogs are in English, though, which gives a taste of what’s happening beyond the shores of the North American continent. Each of the winners looks frustratingly fascinating while reminding me that there’s a whole world of blogging out there.

I found these awards by following a link provided by Portuguese media blogger António Granada at Ponto Media, Portuguese being the bit of a language I can read well enough to, most times, get a general idea about what’s being said.
