Items my attention got snagged on today. (Updated throughout the day.)
- Amazon to serve up books by the page. Interesting possibilities when you can buy books in bits and pieces.
- Patenting story lines. David Weinberger on an application for a U.S. patent on a plot — not the writing of it, but the plot itself. Yet another reason why we have to start screaming for a stop to this kind of nonsense and start demanding sane copyright and patent laws from our legislators. Check out how Weinberger tagged the item, too, because it says a bundle.
- Studs Terkel: video download. At The University Channel, which makes available videos from presentations and discussions from a variety of universites. Significant because (a) it’s Studs Terkel and (b) it’s labelled “video for iTunes.”
- BBC News media to your desktop. The Beeb starts delivering its audio and video news directly to the desktop via RSS. It really is a whole new world.
- The Next Bad Thing? More Circulation Woes. Poynter’s Rick Edmonds in advance of Monday’s release of newspaper circulation figures for the period ending Sept. 30. The headline says it all.
- The network is my computer. An interesting report from Max Limpag on the results of his search for getting all his work-related data online and, therefore, accessible from anywhere.
