What we have here is either very old maps or a very juvenile attitude being used down the road from here in Redmond, Washington. The screenshot on the right is from the new Microsoft Virtual Earth; the one on the left is from Google maps. Both show 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California which, according to Microsoft is a blank field and, according to Google, is the sprawling campus of Apple Computers. Which it is.
The Register, which reported on the MS omission, also reports:
Even more disturbing MSN’s Virtual Earth still shows the twin towers of the World Trade Center in all their pre-9/11 glory.
UPDATE: Just checked Robert Scoble’s blog and apparently Microsoft is using satellite imagery from 1991. Yikes. That’s not even in this century.
UPDATE II: Then there’s the whole issue of the missing country. See Darren Barefoot’s post MSN Virtual Earth Hates Canada for the details.
