Global Voices does a great job of bringing to light bloggers from around the world, with regular regional updates and links to all parts of the world. It’s also a great news source when events break. That’s the case this weekend with links to non-Western (I hate to define something as a negative: is there a better term?) web sites providing insight into the protests and brutal government crackdown in Uzbekistan.

Rebecca MacKinnon is the driving force behind the site, which is sponsored by the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at the Harvard Law School, and there’s an active community of commentators helping track down voices from around the world.
